INVOKANA IS A DIABETIC MEDICATION

Johnson & Johnson and its Janssen Pharmaceuticals unit manufactures and distributes Invokana (canagliflozin), for folks with type-2 diabetes, to control their blood-sugar levels.

INVOKANA MECHANISM OF ACTION

The FDA approved Invokana in 2013, and Invokana was the first medication in a new class known as sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors.

Other members of this class include Farxiga, Invokamet, Glyxambi, Jardiance, and Xigduo XR.

Invokana is the most widely used of the class. These medications prevent hyperglycemia (high blood-sugar levels) by allowing the kidneys remove excess blood sugar via the urine.

Invokana Lawsuits

Johnson & Johnson and its Janssen subsidiary are exposed to allegations that the companies failed to adequately research the potential side effects of Invokana, and failed to warn about severe side effects from its blockbuster line of new diabetic drugs.

UPDATE: Invokana Injury side effects claims now over 1,000

More than 1,000 Invokana injury side effects lawsuits are filed in the federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) set up for patients who have been victimized by lower limb amputations, diabetic ketoacidosis, kidney failure and other catastrophic injuries after use of the black boxed diabetes drug.

The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey is ground zero for the Invokana lawsuits where more than 1,000 other Invokana lawsuits are currently centralized and consolidated for coordinated pretrial proceedings, as part of a federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) before U.S. District Judge Brian Martinotti.

The Invokana cases involve three different injury categories, kidney failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, and allegations that Invokana increases the risk of amputations.
