In early 2009, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered that some of the information mentioned in the Yaz commercials was incorrect. The FDA has demanded that Bayer correct the message of the campaign. The FDA has also demanded that Bayer include the most serious Yaz side effects in the new campaign, such as heart attack, stroke and pulmonary embolism, among others.

Yaz And Yasmin Linked To Deadly Venous Thrombosis Embolism
The birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin were approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001 and 2006. Both drugs were marketed to women for acne and weight gain during PMS.

Both Yaz and Yasmin have been linked to a number of potentially deadly side effects. According to two studies published in the British Medical Journal, birth control pills such as Yaz and Yasmin double the risk of blood clots compared to another popular form of birth control. This increased blood clot risk can place women in danger of other serious conditions, including heart attack, stroke, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.

Drospirenone (DRSP) Containing Birth Control Pills: YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, Safyral, Vestura

We are currently investigating and accepting venous thromboembolism (VTE) personal injury cases caused by the following birth control pills YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, Safyral, and Vestura. These medications contain the progestin drospirenone (DRSP).

Deep Vein Thrombosis Injury (DVT) is a YAZ/Yasmin Side Effect

Deep vein thrombosis, is abbreviated as DVT, and it is the formation of a blood clot in a vein deep in the body. DVT is a possible side effect of YAZ and Yasmin birth control.

Deep vein thrombosis occurs most commonly in leg veins, but also can occur in other parts of the body. Although it can occur without symptoms, in many cases of DVT the affected extremity will be painful, swollen, red and warm to the touch. A pulmonary embolism (PE) is a serious complication of a DVT, this may occur when the blood clot breaks lose and travels to the lungs, causing a blockage and in some cases sudden death.

Pulmonary Embolism Injury (PE) is a YAZ/Yasmin Side Effect

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a possible side effect of YAZ and Yasmin birth control pills.  A PE occurs when a main artery of the lung or one of its branches becomes blocked, thereby preventing blood from traveling through the lungs.  The most common cause of PE is deep vein thrombosis (DVT).  See above.

YAZ, Yasmin, Beyaz, and Safyral are manufactured by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Yasmin was originally made by Berlex Laboratories, which was acquired by Bayer in 2006.

Ocella is a generic version of Yasmin. Gianvi is a generic version of YAZ. Ocella and Gianvi birth control pills are from Teva Pharmaceuticals and Barr Laboratories.

Zarah is a generic version of Yasmin. Vestura is a generic version of YAZ. Zarah and Vestura oral contraceptives are made by Watson Pharmaceuticals.

Loryna, a generic version of YAZ, and Syeda, a generic version of Yasmin, are made and sold by Sandoz, Inc.

Between 2004 and 2008, the FDA received reports of more than 50 deaths among women taking Yaz, Yasmin or its generic version, Ocella. The agency has received hundreds of additions reports from women who have experienced other side effects of Yaz, Yasmin or Ocella.

In addition to their risk of blood clots and other serious heart problems, Yaz and Yasmin have been linked to an increased risk of gallbladder problems. Women taking the birth control pills are at an increased risk of gallbladder disease, gallstones, and
pancreatitis. Many women who have take Yaz or Yasmin were forced to undergo gallbladder removal surgery (cholecystectomy) in order to correct the injuries they suffered after using these drugs.
